HAPPY 4TH JULY! Here are some 4th of July Fun Facts to get the weekend started!

Happy birthday, America! 4th of July marks the date the Declaration of Independence was signed and birthday of the United States, but here are some other interesting facts.

1. How many people signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th?
2, the president of Congress, John Hancock, and its secretary, Charles Thompson.

2. Is there something written on the back of the Declaration of Independence?
Yes! It’s said the following is written upside down and backwards: “Original Declaration of Independence dated 4th July 1776.”

3. When did the Fourth of July become a legal federal holiday?
1870. Then, in 1938, Congress reaffirmed the holiday to make sure all workers received full pay.

4. When were fireworks first used to celebrate July Fourth?
1777. Congress chose fireworks as a way to celebrate the first anniversary. They were ignited over Philadelphia.

Omahan of the Year 
Congratulations to Todd Schmaderer who was honored last week as Omahan of the Year for all his work as the Omaha Chief of Police.  
 
 
 
Suburban Rotary Car Show Financial Report
Last week James Reed gave us an overview of the Suburban Rotary Car Show financials.  When all revenue is in, we will have raised nearly 44K in proceeds. Expenses were around 11K.  The first 10K of profit will go to the Rotary Foundation for Polio Plus, leaving the club Foundation 23K in profits.

This section of the newsletter is dedicated to club transparency. 
 
Best wishes to Jody-Ann Coore who has served as our a/v technician for two years. She has accepted another position and will be leaving us in July.
 
Congratulations to John Hoich who was selected by the Trustees to serve as Chair for the 23-24 Rotary year.   Kevin Welsh is unable to serve on the Board of Trustees due to regulations by his employer.
 
Congratulations to John Ferguson who has been selected to serve a one-year term on the Board of Directors as Zach Ziler vacates his seat to serve as President-Elect.   Congratulations to Angela Chaney who has been selected to serve a two-year term on the Board of Directors as Sara Huse as resigned her seat.
 
The Board approved a new Yearlings program at June's Board meeting.   Bob Perrin and Rich Rowland will be in charge of this committee and the blue badge program for the 23-24 Rotary year.
 
In February of this year, the Board of Directors voted to remove the 50% attendance requirement for members to align the club with the requirements of the other metro-area clubs. See an excerpt from RI's website below.

Rotary Book Club and Rotary Golf 
If you'd like to be more social with your fellow Rotarians, please consider Rotary golf (contact Frank Goldberg) Rotary bridge (contact Julie Livingston) or book club (Lisa Neu-info below).  You get attendance credit for all these activities. 
 
The next book is: "Bibi: My Story" by Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel.  This is a New York Times bestselling autobiography.  Benjamin Netanyahu tells the story of his family, his path to leadership, and his unceasing commitment to defending his country and securing its future.
 
This book is 654 pages.  We will split reading it for discussion between July and August.  For July, we will read up to Chapter 32 at page 329. 
 
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 18, at Bonefish Grill in Regency.
