Last week Roxy Orr and Amanda Fink served as Greeters. Madeline Moyer gave the invocation. We had several announcements and presentatons. Joe "The Italian Stallion", our esteemed Secretary, was presented with his official Rotary meeting jacket. Dave Laferla introduced Jane Nielsen who told us about the Radio Talking Book service. (rtbs.org is their website for services or volunteering) The RISK bag was at $16 and Dave Laferla won a free lunch.
Two weeks ago Angeline Larson introduced us to new member Jason Smith. Jason serves as the assistant head of school at Brownell Talbot. In this role he oversees the curriculum, teaching, learning, and assessment. Jason moved to Omaha in the summer of 2017. Originally from Tacoma, Washington, Jason and his wife, Jeanne, and two children, Gracie and Kailer, have spent most of their recent years in the Middle East (Doha, Qatar and Dubai) where Jason served as an elementary and middle school principal, and deputy head of school. Jason has served as a school administrator for nearly 15 years. Jason has his BA in Elementary Education, MA in Educational Leadership and earned his superintendent credential from Western Washington University.
Jason is a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church. Jason has served on the board of two churches in Washington State and has recently begun volunteering at Open Door Mission in Omaha.
Two weeks ago Carol Horner recognized Sarah Kalhorn-Wisecup as the latest Rotary Leadership Institute graduate from Suburban Rotary. If you'd like to learn more about this program, ask Sarah or Jennifer for information.
Two weeks ago we recognized all of our Suburban Rotary Veterans at a meeting. We would like all our Veterans to have a Veteran Rotary pin. Please see Herb Hartman or Jennifer if you need one.
Last week Rotary Foundation Committee Chair Kathryn Schubert recognized Rotarians who were part of the Paul Harris Society during the 18-19 Rotary year. They each received a ribbon for their Rotary pin recognizing them for their commitment to the Intl. Rotary Foundation. Paul Harris Society Members agree to donate $1000 each year to the Rotary Foundation. This can be done in a lump sum or by donating $85 automatically each month. Thank you for your generosity! (If you would like to join the PHS Society, please talk to Kathryn or Ward Peters)
18-19 PHS Members (not all pictured) Gary Beller, Eric Dawson, Terry Ferguson, Deanna Fuller, Frank Goldberg, Jerry Gordman, Herb Hartman, Warren Hill, Nick Jasa, C.L.Landen, Jim Leslie, Roxy Orr, Bob Perrin, Curt Peters, Ward Peters, Will Prout, Nate Schwalb, Travis Sholin, Alan Stanek, and Tom Vann
Our goal is for 100% of our members to make a donation to the Rotary Foundation this year. The easiest way is to go to the rotary website at myrotary.org and create an account to give online. A $100 donation makes you a 19-20 Sustaining Member. Cumulative donations of $1000 make you a Paul Harris Fellow.
The Rotary Foundation money we give comes back to us in the form of District and Global grants allowing to us to support local projects like the homeless foot clinic, meal packaging for local food pantries as well as international projects such as the girls' school in Afghanistan and the hospital in Togo.
You can also bring a check made out to the Rotary Foundation to the meeting on Thursday and Jennifer will send it in for you. All first-time donors making a $100 donation will have it matched by the club.
