Each month you have an opportunity to share the gift of Rotary. March 29 is the date this month. If you have a potential member you wish to bring, let our Executive Secretary know, Deborah Daley, by Tuesday, May 27 if you want to give them a free lunch. Let them experience the gift of Rotary!
May 22 Highlights
A special Memorial Day Celebration was held on May 22, complete with flags on each table, an inspiring video and a talk from Vietnam veteran and military honoree Dan Kutilek.

The meeting began with an introduction of new members.  John Hoich introduced Shawn Muhle and Roxy Orr introduced Pat Dixon and Linda Ingram Jasa. Both John and Roxy pledged to bring in new members so they torn up their pledge sheets.

Also recognized were current Red Badge members in attendance.

Encouraging the recruitment of possible members in the home remodeling field during Weekly Classification was Kevin Hensel.

Sharing his gift of rotary was Tom Vann. He talked about attending his first rotary meeting when he was three and going to a Rotary conference when he was 10.  His Dad was a Vice President of Rotary International and he can't imagine any finer place to be than the place his father loved.  It is a fantastic club and he is proud to be part of it.

Talking about his time in Vietnam was veteran Dan Kutilek who is a recipient of a Silver Star, Purple Heart and several other medals for valor.

New Members Introduced
They were already introduced to the club but let's meet Pat Dixon and Linda Ingram Nasa. Pat Dixon is originally from Chicago, and married a girl he met in high school,  has three children and two grandchildren, the oldest who just graduated from Westside last Saturday and is planning to enlist in the service. Pat retired from Cargill after 33 years and recently joined Linda in running the best spa in Omaha, Faces Spa. He has  been a golfer for many years at Sunset Valley but after closing he now plays at Field Club. He is very happy to be a member of Suburban Rotary and to help serve the community in any way he can.

Linda Ingram Jasa was born and raised in Kearney, NE.  She was an educator for 32 years in special education and ESL, and at the same time an owner of a trucking company in Blair. In 2024 she purchased Faces Spa with her business partner Pat Dixon. She has two step sons, that live in Des Moines, IA. Her  hobbies include golf, gardening, herbal wildcrafting, reading and yoga.

Also joining Suburban Rotary Club is Eric Stueckrath. He brings extensive experience in operations management and executive leadership. He became the Executive Director of Outlook Nebraska in 2004.

Under Eric’s leadership, Outlook Nebraska has received multiple awards from the National Industries for the Blind (NIB), including recognition for Quality Work Environment, Employment Achievement, Retention and Growth, and Upward Mobility. Outlook Nebraska was also awarded the Nebraska Safest Company Award by the National Safety Council from 2017 to 2022.

Eric serves on several boards, including as Treasurer of the National Association for the Employment of People Who Are Blind (NAEPB), and as a board member of Heartland Workforce Solutions and the Elkhorn Athletic Association. He is a past board member of National Industries for the Blind (NIB), Omaha Amputee Golf Association, Elkhorn Soccer Club, and Elkhorn Girls Softball Association.

A graduate of Leadership Omaha (Class 34), Eric was also named a Midlands Business Journal 40 Under 40 award winner in 2014.

Eric is married to Shilo, and they have two daughters: Kennedy (married to Bryce) and Skylar (married to Jacob). Eric and Shilo enjoy hosting gatherings with friends, traveling, all things soccer-related, spending time with their dogs, and golfing.

District Governor's May Message

Thank you for your commitment as Rotarians to our future! Please read more to see the exciting things happening in your District.

As we step into May with graduation celebrations, spring sports and new beginnings, I am reminded that May is Youth Service Month when Rotary clubs focus on youth services, including: Rotaract, Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and Rotary Youth Exchange.

It is also the time of year when many clubs are awarding scholarships to graduating seniors. It is great to celebrate our commitment to empowering young leaders who will be our future leaders to carry the Rotary torch forward.

I would also like to highlight some of the achievements of our district. I was honored to attend the Lincoln South meeting this past month to present Rotary’s prestigious “Service Above Self” Award to Jenny Cardwell. This award is given to only 150 recipients annually worldwide to recognize members who fully embody our primary motto. Jenny, who served as club President in 2014-15 is so deserving of this award for her service to her club, the district and Rotary International. Way to go Jenny!

I am looking forward to attending some important events in the next month to recognize some milestone achievements of our clubs. I will be attending a banquet on May 2nd to honor the Nebraska City Rotary Club who will be celebrating 100 years as a Rotary Club. Then on May 31st, I will join the Seward Club as they celebrate their 100th year anniversary as well. A huge congratulations to these clubs for achieving these milestones and the impact that they have had on their communities.

I am looking forward to our Annual Meeting on May 8th where we will present next year’s district budget, elect new board members and ratify our district leadership team for the next three years. Thank you to the delegates who will attend for representing your clubs.

Yours in Rotary,
Tom Kerfoot, District Governor
