Meeting re-cap 5/17/18
Last week Joe Sequenzia, Karen Rolf, and Kim-Jae Kang served as Greeters. Ward Peters gave the invocation.  We had several announcements, presentations, and two new member introductions.  Curt Peters introduced the District exchange students both inbound and outbound who talked about their experiences and plans.   The RISK bag was $200 and Jack Hosking won half the pot.

Welcome Kim-Jae Kang!
Last week Karen Rolf introduced us to new member Kim-Jae Kang.
Kim-Jae Kang earned a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Boston University with full course completion for a degree in Psychology, and a M.Ed. from the University of Maryland in Counseling and Personnel Services.  She holds a C.F.M. (Certificate in Fund Raising Management) from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  She was co-founder of the Center of Childhood Deafness (CCD) Guild at Boys Town National Research Hospital (BTNRH), which raises funds annually for the CCD.  She also serves on the fund-raising committee for the Dominican Pediatric ENT Medical Mission for the Dominican Republic.  Her husband Rick is a surgeon at Boys Town who participates in an annual pediatric ENT Mission.  This mission includes a team of doctors, nurses, and audiologists who provide ENT surgery, health care, and audiological services to children in need.  Kim-Jae is past Vice-Chair and currently serves on the State of Nebraska’s Department of Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EDHI) Advisory Committee.  She worked part-time and retired from the (BTNRH-CCD) as a Parent Professional Resource Developer.

Kim-Jae has lived in three countries including France, Okinawa, Japan, and all over the United States (Hawaii, Texas, Massachusetts, Virginia, California, Ohio, and Nebraska).  There are three generations of military in her family: her father retired from the U.S. Army, her husband from the U.S. Navy, and her son, Stephen, is active duty in the U.S. Army.  Kim-Jae and Rick Kang have three children, two biological daughters and one adopted son.  Her oldest daughter, Michelle, is completing residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, and her youngest daughter, Nicole, is an Engineer.  Nicole and her husband, Chris, welcomed their first child, Logan two months ago!

When Kim- Jae is not working or with her family, she enjoys gardening, art projects, gourmet cooking, and reading non-fiction.  She spends most of her spare time volunteering;  Kim-Jae has been volunteering in the community for over forty years.  Welcome, Kim-Jae!

Service Opportunities
A fantastic opportunity for Rotarians to serve is coming up June 9th with Project Everlast.  Rotarians will help train at-risk youth leaving foster care on how to prepare a resume, apply, for a job, open a bank account, and more.   This is great way to give back to the community and help youth.   Please CLICK HERE to sign up for a shift.  More details will be available from Holly Hollenbeck at Thursday's meeting.

Prospect Hill Cemetery, the oldest pioneer cemetery in Omaha, 3202 Parker Street, has an agreement with Suburban Rotary to Adopt-A-Plot of grounds to keep tidy all during the growing season.  Please consider coming for one of the following future Saturday's, from 10 a.m.-noon, and help weed whack, rake yard waste, sweep the curbs, pick up sticks and pick up litter.
