Meeting re-cap 2/22/18

Last week Curt Peters and Magan Smithserved as Greeters. Judy Sealer gave the invocation. We had several announcements. Michelle Schrage introduced Trish Cody who talked to us about becoming more self-aware in order to be a better leader. The RISK bag was at $717 and Roxy Orr won 358.50 by drawing the Yoda card.

Past Rotary International President at Suburban on 3/15

Make sure you mark your calendar and invite a guest to attend Rotary with you this day. Past RI President Ray Klinginsmith will be in town on Thursday, March 15th to attend the NAYEN conference and has agreed to speak at Suburban's meeting. Cost will be $16 as usual. Help us fill the big room for him!

Rotary Book Club

The book for March discussion is "Traveling with Charley" by John Steinbeck.

Our next meeting is at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at Wheatfield's on 103rd & Pacific. All are welcome!

Rotary Foundation Legacy Dinner

Rachel Greenhoe, Major Gifts Officer from the Rotary Foundation will be in Omaha on March 9th and 10th to visit with any Suburban Rotarian who has any questions or interest in estate planning options for the Rotary Foundation. Call 1-847-866-3476 to arrange an appointment. District 5650 will have a Legacy Dinner on May 17th acknowledging new donations of $10,000 or more in donations, bequests, planned giving in wills or arranging an endowed funds.

Rotary Youth Leadership Academy

As you may be aware every April our district coordinates Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp. RYLA camp (April 6-8, 2018) is an intensive 3-day training program for High School Sophomores and Juniors that helps participants think critically about important issues and share ideas with talented peers, learn how to coordinate and lead community service projects, discuss the importance of good governance and civil society to the world, and finally, learn to think globally and explore issues that transcend national and cultural boundaries.

To make the camp a success we seek students from diverse backgrounds throughout the district. Diversity refers to any student who is interested in local and global issues and whose participation in this program would help expand and add to their current experiences and perspectives. We seek your help to spread the word about this amazing opportunity and to encourage students you believe would benefit from this experience to apply. This year we are excited for several new activities including a tree planting with the Arbor Day Foundation, and several new engaging activities and speakers that are sure to a success. Our District Governor Dr. Tom Cardwell has sent a letter with brochures to all the club presidents in the district, however, and I wanted to let you know that if you need more materials please feel free to email me and I will send you additional recruiting materials.
