Keep the Kids Warm
New Member Introduced
Nate Bledsoe is a Senior Project Manager for Ronco Construction.  He lives in Bellevue, NE where he and his wife Mckenna enjoy spending time on bike rides or walks with our three kids Wes (B-6), Indie (G-3), and Abel (B-1), and their golden retriever Nash who enjoys the exercise after her long day of comforting kids getting checkups and the Children's Clinic. When Nate gets some time he loves to play golf (poorly), volleyball, or just about any board/card game - but chess is probably his favorite.

Bellevue Food Pantry
With recent cuts in federal financial support, the Bellevue Pantry is in dire need of our help.  We are supporting them through bringing supplies or donating checks to the Bellevue Food Pantry.  The following link has a list of food items. Please bring in your donations on next Thursday.  Last week we donated $125 and two carts of food. Roxy Orr will take our donations to the pantry.  Thank you for your support.

Rotary Means Business Fellowship
Oct. 23 Highlights
This week Yearlings were asked who their heartthrob was growing up.  Julie Andrews was among the responses.

Suzi Brehmer talked about her Gift of Rotary.  She recalled being asked to join by Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt and how the real gift of Rotary are the Rotarians themselves and the impact they have on your life.

Dr. Dele Davies shared insights on the impact of UNMC on Nebraska.  The physician and interim Chancellor was born in Nigeria.  He came to Omaha by invitation but stays in Omaha for love.  He is a Rotarian as well as his father. He talked abut how UNMC and Nebraska Medicine educate, research and provide patient care. The student enrollment has gone up for 25 straight years and the institution is on many national recognition lists. The economic impact of the enterprise is about $7.7 billion and they are the largest employer in Nebraska. The research faculty alone brings in $170 million in research from outside funding.
Rotary Leadership Institute
The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will take place on November 8th. This program is intended to enhance the leadership capabilities of our members and strengthen our clubs through education, collaboration, and networking. RLI provides an opportunity to gain deeper knowledge about Rotary, develop practical leadership skills, and connect with Rotarians from across the region. It is beneficial for both new and long-standing members seeking greater involvement with Rotary's mission!  Click here for more information.
Book Club Nov. 11
The next book club book selection is "A National Park For Women's Rights" by Judy Hart.  This selection is made by Warren Hill, whose career was with the National Parks Administration. This book chronicles a little-known story in American history: the establishment of the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, New York; the first "idea park" in the National Park system. As told by Judy Hart, its visionary founder and first superintendent, the park's story is one of struggle and perseverance, opposition and solidarity (It is 285 pages).

The club will meet on November 11, at 5:30 p.m.  Location to be determined.

Monthly Meeting Sponsor October
District Governor's October Message
Rotary District 5650 Rotarians: Welcome to October! This is one of my favorite times of year! Warm days and cool temperatures at night are upon us with fall colors soon to be on display! Harvest is well under way in the countryside, and pumpkins will be looking to find a porch to sit upon.

I wanted to give a big thank you to the ten Rotary Clubs that I spoke to in September! Wayne, Red Oak, Crete, Columbus Noon, Council Bluffs Centennial, Glenwood, Fremont, Lincoln Giving Spirits Evening, Ashland, & Pawnee City. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and letting me share the Rotary International message for this 2025-26 year, “Unite for Good”!!!

I have now spoken to all 37 Rotary Clubs in our District. It has been an honor and a privilege to meet with all of you! You are all community builders!!

I also participated in a few special club events:

Seward Rotary Club’s Centennial Project - “Shades for the Seward Bandshell” dedication program held the evening of September 21st. The event was free to all. The evening included a special dedication concert, several short comments, musical solos, door prizes and free birthday cake and ice cream! The new “Shades at the Bandshell” project is the official Centennial Project of the Seward Rotary Club - 1925-2025 - donated by Seward Rotarians and the community!

Ashland Rotary Club’s sidewalks/improvements dedication ceremony groundbreaking around the children’s park the morning ofWednesday, September 24th, 2025.

Geneva Rotary Club’s Annual Octoberfest, held on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, afternoon/evening to complete the final fundraising for their bandshell project in the Geneva Rotary Park.

I also had the honor to speak to the 41 RYLA students at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA-Powered by Launch) program, held September 26-28th, 2025 at Camp Calvin Crest located near Fremont, Nebraska, about Rotary and our peace essay contest with the 3 top winners coming to speak at the District Conference.  I helped hand out the student’s certificates of completion with Kathryn Schubert, PDG, RYLA District Chair. Kathryn has done an amazing job of organizing RYLA and bringing the program back stronger than ever to the clubs. A big thank you to the Rotary Clubs that supported this year’s RYLA Camp!

Speaking of the Rotary District Conference, I wanted to personally invite you to attend the Rotary District 5650 Fall Conference, Friday – Saturday, October 17-18th, 2025 at the Scott Conference Center, Aksarben Village, Omaha, Nebraska.
