Last week kicked off our first meeting with President Nick Jasa and Secretary Andy "Ticky- Tock" Goranson. John Maxell and Madeline Moyer served as greeters and Kim-Jae Kang gave our invocation. Ward Peters and Judy Sealer hosted our new member mingle tables. We had lots of announcements and presentations. Jeff Moran introduced Jerry Murtaugh who gave an impassioned talk on his Nebraska Greats Foundation. He also had everyone laughing with his opinions and thoughts on everything from "playing without a helmet" to the NFL.
The RISK bag was at $89 and Tracy Rowland won a free lunch.
Last week Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt introduced us to Elizabeth "Eli" McNichols. She is a third generation Omaha Rotarian and daughter of Past District 5650 Governor Larry McNichols. She has been a 23 year, perfect attendance, member of Omaha North. The past ten years she has served as Executive Director but has also served as an ADG, President twice and in other capacities. She is a Paul Harris plus two donor and a benefactor as well as a Rotary Leadership Institute Graduate. She is also the Goddaughter of former Suburban Rotarian Jim Rosenquist.
She is currently working at Walmart down the street and has been there since before it opened ten years ago. She just retired from working at Joslyn Castle for 24 years. She has been in the financial world of retirement plan trust administration and First National Bank and FirsTier Bank for twenty years prior to Walmart.
She currently serves on the Dundee/Memorial Park Board and the National Society of Colonial Dames in Nebraska Board. She has been involved in many organizations including Central High School Alumni Board (president and Chairman of the Hall of Fame), Red Cross by donating over 23 gallons of blood so far, UNO and Creighton Foreign Student Host Family-30 years (21 countries, five continents), Gamma Phi Beta Alumni group and others.
She has a MS from UNO and BA from Drake University in Sociology/Gerontology. Welcome, Eli!

Last week Past President Jared Bakewell presented the District awards to the club represented by Roxy Orr, Holly Hollenbeck, and Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt. We were #1 in per capita Rotary Foundation giving, best large club community service project (homeless foot clinic), and #6 club in the District based on a points system for members, dollars, and projects.
Mark your calendars for our next event on August 9th at the Jewish Community Center Goldstein Family Aquatic Center 333 So. 132 St. from 5-7 pm. This new facility just opened on Memorial Day. Rotarians will enjoy food, drinks, and friends.
This will be a joint Suburban and West event hosted by Howard Epstein and Steve Levinger.
The new center features a water slide, lazy river, lap pool and climbing wall. (Bring your suit if you'd like to try it out) See you there! Don't forget to bring a guest!
This fun event will take place at Spikers in Gretna this weekend. Volunteers can help pass out water and sell t-shirts beginning at 7:30 am. Considering coming out to support this event and cheer on the Suburban Rotary team on Saturday morning (sponsored by our Past Secretaries). A big thanks to Penny McWilliams and Baxter Kenworthy for producing this event which is a large fundraiser for our scholarship program.

Prospect Hill Cemetery, the oldest pioneer cemetery in Omaha, 3202 Parker Street, has an agreement with Suburban Rotary to Adopt-A-Plot of grounds to keep tidy all during the growing season. Please consider coming for one of the following future Saturday's, from 10 a.m.-noon, and help weed whack, rake yard waste, sweep the curbs, pick up sticks and pick up litter. Attendance credit guaranteed for your two hour effort. The following Saturdays include: August 25 and September 22nd. Please contact Ward Peters and have some fun on the beautiful grounds.
