Meeting re-cap 1/29

Last week our meeting was held at Crestridge Magnet School. Students gave tours to Rotarians, we heard from the Crestridge Ambassadors and the kids sang songs for us. Around 70 Rotarians attended this fun meeting. Thanks to Judy Cline for setting it up for us!

Crestridge Santa's Workshop-THANK YOU!

Thank you for your generous support of Santa's Workshop at Crestridge Magnet School. The kids will be "shopping" for gifts this week. Many items were donated and many more were purchased with the over $700 donated.

Volunteers are also needed on December 15th, 16th, and 17th to help students select and pack up gifts. 2 people are needed from 10-noon and 115-315 each day. If you'd like to volunteer, please let Jennifer or Ashley Baker know.

Last week Marlene Sullivan, Ashley Baker, and Crestridge staff took students shopping for clothing with the funds raised from Keep the Kids Warm. Thank you Rotarians for all your support of Crestridge students!

Stocking Stuffing

Last week, one of the District Rotary grants was used by Penny Koenig for HELP Adult Services' Christmas Stocking Project. About 2700 stockings were filled and given to those who are incarcerated. Many of the individuals who receive the Christmas Stocking are then able to give these to their children as a present. Others, well, it is the only gift that they receive during the holidays. Thank you for your Rotary Foundation donations that make these projects possible as well as those who volunteered.

Military Affairs Projects

Last week Roger Groff delivered a check for $1500 to the Offutt Family Support Center in support to help Wounded Warriors. Roger and Cortney Sells also volunteered at Winter Wonderland for the children of troops! Thank you Rotarians for your donations that made these projects possible

Ho Ho Ho Holiday Open House at Roxy's -TOMORROW

President Roxy Orr will be spreading some holiday cheer with an open house at her place: 807 North 131st Plaza, Omaha, NE 68154. Mark your calendars for 5:30-9pm on Tuesday, December 16th.

Annual Holiday Luncheon

Make plans for you and guest to attend our Annual Holiday Luncheon on Thursday, December 18th at Anthony's. Lunch will feature a delicious buffet of beef tips, chicken alfredo, and dessert. We will have entertainment by a violinist and a white elephant gift exchange. To participate in the gift exchange, bring an item wrapped (guests are welcome to participate as well.)

Payment will be on the day of the luncheon. Pre-registering of guests is not required but if you let Jennifer know guest names ahead of time, she can have nametags ready for you.

Cost is $20 per person.

Rotary Foundation - donate before the end of the year!

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people – children, families and entire communities – benefit from projects funded by The Rotary Foundation. Its concentration is in six areas of focus: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education and growing local economies.

In this season of giving your $10 gift can provide bed nets to combat malaria in countries like Uganda and for a donation of $25, it can purchase the necessary school uniform which enables a child to attend school. Your $50 gift can provide water filters that will combat deadly waterborne diseases in Guatemala, and $85 can purchase purple markers used to mark the pinkie fingers of children who have received the polio vaccine. $100 can provide a sewing machine used to launch a business in India, and $250 gives mothers living in domestic violence shelters the means to bathe and care for their babies.

Rotary’s “Doing Good in the World” takes on many projects and tasks that make the world a better place. Your contribution and support of The Rotary Foundation allows this to happen.
