Last week Kelly Adams and Dan Wellendorf served as Greeters. Suzi Brehmer gave the invocation. We had several announcements and presentations including recognition of all Rotary veterans. Roger Morrissey introduced Cindy Van Bibber who talked about the Omaha National Cemetery and what it takes to be buried there. The RISK bag was at $530 and Suzi Brehmer won a free lunch.
Last week we recognized with special Rotary Veteran pins all of our club members who have served. If you did not receive one, please let Jennifer know. We thank you for your service!
Last week Angeline Larson presented Jim Kapalis, Dick Miller, and Barb Rebrovich with the Suburban Rotary Engagement Award. This is new for this Rotary year and recognizes Rotarians for being involved at a higher level. Congratulations to them all. If you'd like to earn this, you have about a month left. Thank you to all of those who supported the wide variety of programs Suburban Rotary conducts by giving to our local Foundation fundraiser. It's not too late to help us reach our goal. If you would like to make a contribution of any size, please contact Jennifer. We will continue to recognize our President's Scholarship Circle members (donors of $300 or more) for one more week. If you have not received your certificate, please let Jennifer know. Thank you for your generosity!
On Saturday, June 1st Suburban Rotary is going to hold our first-ever career fair for young adults exiting foster care and other at-risk youth. Approximately 23K kids age out of foster care each year. About 20% of these will become homeless after turning 18 and leaving the system. By age 24 only 1 out of every 2 young adults aging out of foster care will have gainful employment. This career fair is Suburban Rotary's attempt to do something about these statistics.
We will have employers and career resources for these young people on at Center Mall (1941 S. 42nd Street) for students to learn about opportunities for employment, military service, health care and other community resources. We will provide lunch and goody bags for the young people and will hold gift card drawing as an incentive to visit the booths. Please join us and volunteer this day to help young people in our community. We need approximately 35 volunteers.
