Last week re-cap

Last week Walt Horner and Kathryn Schubert served as Greeters. Rose Mary Hefley gave the invocation. We had several announcements and presentations. Don Leu presented Maestro Thomas Wilkins the Omahan of the Year award on behalf of the 4 Way Test Committee. Alan Stanek introduced Thomas Wilkins who spoke to us about coming to Omaha and his inspiration. The RISK bag was at $292 and Steve Riekes won a free lunch.

Welcome Mike Lucas!

Last week Lyle Sapp introduced us to new member Mike Lucas. Mike is the new Superintendent of Westside Community Schools and relocated to Omaha this summer. Mike originally grew up in Florida and attended Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas where he played football. Mike earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Benedictine and his Specialist and Doctorate degrees from the University of Nebraska.

He spent several years teaching and coaching in Kansas and Nebraska.

Mike is married to Liesl who is originally from Omaha. They have four children. Mike was a member of the York Rotary Club for 10 years while he served as the Superintendent of York Public Schools. Mike is also adjunct professor, leadership consultant, and motivational speaker as his schedule allows. Welcome, Mike!

After Hours TONIGHT!

Mark your calendars for our next event on Monday, September 23rd with the UNO Student Veterans' Organization at UNO's Criss Library. 5:30-7:30 pm The goal is to interact socially and to mentor the student veterans. Food and drinks provided. Bring a guest!

Paul Harris Recognition

Last week Kathryn Schubert recognized Terry Ferguson as a Paul Harris Fellow+8 for his generosity to the International Rotary Foundation. Terry has donated over $9000 to the International Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation supports projects around the world to promote peace, literacy, health, and disease eradication. Congratulations and thank you!

Habitat for Humanity's Rock the Block on Saturday October, 19th 2019

You must sign up by clicking HERE so that you can complete the waiver, etc.

This event is all about bringing communities together and promoting healthy neighborhoods! Months before the event, our staff meets and surveys the existing neighbors in the areas we serve. With your help, we will assist these residents with a variety of tasks, which usually include light repair, clean-up, sanding, painting, staining, and a lot of landscaping. At the end of the day, the neighborhood shines a little brighter, and new relationships are formed.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as water to drink. Volunteer check-in and breakfast starts at 7:30 AM. We will kickoff at 8:00 AM with a brief introduction to Habitat and the Rock the Block program. Then the music will start pumping and the work begins! When it is all finished, we celebrate the day’s success and show our gratitude by sitting down together for lunch.
