Dear Fellow Rotarians, Stinky, dirty, sweaty. I found these Suburban workers looking much like the Charles Schultz's Peanuts character PigPen standing in Edna Brooks-Pittman's yard last Saturday morning. This crew assembled to help fellow Rotarian Edna clear out her backyard. A large tree had fallen in the yard. Unable to remove the tree, Edna watched as poison ivy and other noxious weeds invaded her space. John Hoich’s company first sprayed sprayed for poison ivy. Then Rotarian volunteers met at 8:30 am and made quick work of the project, finishing the job in less than three hours. Like a true Preseident, I showed up when the work was done to get my picture taken . I’m the clean person in the middle of the photo. We had the opportunity to meet Patrice and Curtis, two of Edna’s children. Patrice gave us all homemade COVID masks and invited to club to a potluck at her house next spring. Jennifer took home a new pet garter snake, Snakey” she found slithering in the weeds. - eww! In addition, an anonymous Rotarian sent an electrician over to repair Edna’s air conditioner. These Rotarians may have been filthy and tired, but they all wore huge smiles that come from the knowledge that they had helped one of our own. Thank you, Rotarians! You are Simply the Best!
