Last week Winsley Durand and Ranny Perez served as Greeters. Jeff Moran gave the invocation. David Gerard led the singing. President Roxy Orr recognized Tom Kerfoot as a Rotarian that "Lights Up Rotary" for being chosen as the Sarpy County Chamber Volunteer of the Year (not to mention an awesome Rotary volunteer). She also recognized Rotarian Amanda Shaeffer and her daughter Josie who have returned to Omaha after Josie underwent multiple heart surgeries after birth in California. Roxy also offered a toast in celebration of bringing in our 200th and 201st members. Secretary Nick Jasa introduced Judy Cline as the "Rotarian of the Day". Ralph Williams introduced Ann Coyne and Julie Delkamiller who talked about the Deaf School in Nicaragua supported by UNO, Rotary, and many private donors. The RISK bag was at $609 and Winsley Durand won half!
Last week Grant Stanley introduced us to our 200th member, Adam Nordstrom. Adam is the Executive Director for the Re-Entry Center for Teen Challenge which is a faith-based organization that offers hope and help to those who are struggling with life-controlling addictions.
Adam grew up in Omaha after moving from Rockford, IL. After graduating from Burke, Adam entered into Teen Challenge, completed the program, did an internship, and has been involved with Teen Challenge ever since.
Adam holds a degree in psychology from Upper Iowa University. He is also a credentialed minister. Adam is married to Michelle and they have a half-lab/boxer that they walk in their free time. Adam also enjoys wood-working and construction projects. Welcome, Adam!
Last week Ron Pearson introduced us to our 201st member, Dr. Dan Schnoes. Dan is the Chief Administrator for Educational Service Unit #3. Dan has 31 years of experience in education as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. He is married to Connie and they have six children (two of whom serve in the military). They currently have one grandchild and one on the way. Welcome, Dan!
Thank you to Nate Schwalb and his staff at Hillsborough Pointe Apartments for holding a fun Halloween-themed After Hours. Members and guests enjoyed mummy dogs, bloody punch and many other "creepy snacks" as well as tours of the remodeled apartments.
Save the date for the November Keep the Kids Warm After Hours at Lindley Clothing on November 20th. Will feature food from Frank's pizza, beverages, and music by Mark Sanford. Donations of gently used coats kids and adults are appreciated and cash donations to purchase clothing/coats.
Last week Judy Cline presented a slideshow showing the results of a Crestridge butterfly garden and landscaping project that was completed by John Hoich/Hoich Enterprises using a District 5650 Rotary grant. $1458 was donated by the Suburban Rotary Foundation to match the the $1458 given by the District. John Hoich also donated another $1000 worth of labor/materials. The signs were donated by Central Welding and Machine. Thank you to Judy Cline for heading up this project!
Last week Roger Groff presented a slideshow with photos of various groups of soldiers receiving some of the 187 Savings Sidekick books that were donated by Rotarians. Roger hand-delivered these to several groups. Thanks to the generous Rotarians who donated the books!
Since we don't meet on Thanksgiving, we are asking you to consider donating your lunch money ($15) from that day to buy an attendance credit (will be used for your next missed meeting) and all the proceeds will go to Polio Plus!
Plan to join Rotarians around the Metro Area at the 24th Annual Metro Luncheon featuring Economist Ernie Goss as the keynote speaker. Guests are welcome! Register at the back at an upcoming meeting.
