Chris Breci, InfiNet Solutions

Chris Breci is the Vice President of InfiNet Solutions, an Omaha-based technology services firm. He has over 20 years of experience working with businesses to manage technology, reduce risk, and improve operations.

For the past three years, Chris has spoken to organizations across the greater Omaha area on security awareness. His focus is on real risks businesses actually face and how those risks impact revenue, operations, and reputation.

His presentations are built on real scenarios drawn from his own client experience and from incidents seen across partner MSPs around the country, giving a clear view into how attacks actually happen.

After-Hours at Shadow Lake Collision
Each month Suburban Rotarians gather to network and socialize.  On April 2, members gathered at Shadow Lake Collision where Rotarian Eric Dawson had his grand opening. See more pictures here.
Scholarship Luncheon Registration
Time is of the essence.  This is the last week to sign up for our Scholarship Luncheon today. Annually we award 10 higher education scholarships for students with special needs.  We will recognize these outstanding individuals at our annual luncheon on April 16 from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Happy Hollow Country Club.

Register for this important event, which costs $30, online here. Not only can you see Rotary in action, you receive double-credit for attending.
April 2 Highlights
To get to know Yearlings better they were asked if they could drive any car what would it be.  Answers ranged from Range Rovers to convertibles.

Suzi Brehmer, Chair, Scholarship Committee, reminded the club that Scholarship Luncheon is April 16th and you must register to attend.  Deadline to register is this week.

Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt, Membership Committee Chair, reminded the group that April 23 is "Bring your kids/grandkids to Rotary day."  To get a free lunch for your guest you must register with Executive Secretary Deborah Daley by April 16.

Tom Kerfoot introduced the honoree of the day Frank Goldberg. He talked about his amazing career in Rotary including being one of only seven Nebraskans who have served on the Rotary International Board.  To acknowledge Frank's accomplishments fellow Suburban Rotarians have endowed The Frank and Leanne Goldberg Endowed Scholarship to support the club's scholarship program.

Nate Schwalb shared that he has known Frank over 67 years and that his love and commitment runs deep.  "There is not an event I have attended that he doesn't mention Rotary with pride."

Frank Goldberg shared with the group that this recognition is "humbling," especially because it comes from his Rotary family.  Although members sometimes give him a hard time, like walking out of events when he comes to the podium, he knows it is all done out of love and respect.  He indicated early mentors like Howard Vann opened doors to opportunities for him and he tries to do that for others. One of his proudest moment was as president of the club was to increase membership from 173 to 200 members. He and his wife have traveled the world especially as a training leader for Rotary. According to Frank, the mission and the work of Rotary means something to him and he gladly gives of himself.

Fundraiser  Support
Faith Morrison mentioned at our  last meeting a fundraiser for a couple having cancer.  Here are the fliers she provided if interested in supporting this cause.

Governor Robert's April Message
Rotary District 5650 Rotarians—Welcome to April! “No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn. April is a promise that May is bound to keep, and we know it.” Having grown up on a farm and ranch, I think this quote by Hal Borland, writer, journalist, and naturalist, born May 14th, 1900, in Sterling, Nebraska, speaks to the seasonal transition that spring represents for hope and renewal as we move toward May.

We definitely need the promise of moisture and calm weather. March was a difficult month for our region with droughts and wildfires. In western Nebraska so many people are looking for better days ahead, where the wildfires have caused so much damage. Fortunately, like our own devastating tornados that ripped across Nebraska and Iowa, from two years ago, April 26th, 2024, the wildfires have also brought people together to help those in need including Rotarians to “Unite for Good.”

I wanted to highlight the successful volunteer efforts of our fellow Rotarians located in Rotary District 5630 located to the west of our District 5650. Hot Meals USA, a nonprofit, started by a Rotarian in the Kearney Rotary Club, has been serving free meals to firefighting crews from across the area nonstop with help from Rotary volunteers in Ogallala and North Platte. Rotary District 5630.

Past District Governor 2024-25, Lorena Beckius, has worked nonstop to help organize volunteers and donations for Hot Meals USA volunteer feeding locations in Ogallala and North Platte. The Rotary and community volunteers have staffed three shifts 7 days a week for the past few weeks helping to gather supplies and to prepare and serve meals.

Hot Meals USA is the same group that came to our help a couple of years ago when we faced our own disaster after the April 26th, 2024 tornados. I am including their website in case you would like to help or donate. https://www.hotmealsusa.org/. You can also follow Hot Meals USA on their Facebook page and please find a signup link with current volunteer opportunities.

That brings me to Rotary’s Area of Focus for April – Protecting the Environment
https://www.rotary.org/en/our-causes/protecting-environment

"Rotary shares an interest in protecting our common legacy: the environment. We are committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources and advance ecological sustainability. We empower communities to embrace local solutions, create innovative service projects, and access grants and other resources to foster harmony between people and nature.

Rotary makes change happen

We work with communities to implement service projects that improve the environment and transform lives. Thriving ecosystems can support people’s health, create economic opportunities, and help build peace.

Rotary’s Partnership with the United Nations Environment Program

Through Rotary and the United Nations Environment Program Community Action for Fresh Water initiative, Rotary clubs can protect, restore, and sustain their local freshwater ecosystems.
