Last week our meeting was held at Crestridge Magnet School. Students gave tours to Rotarians, we heard from the Crestridge Ambassadors and the kids sang songs for us. Around 70 Rotarians attended this fun meeting. Thanks to Judy Cline for setting it up for us!
On Thursday, January 29th instead of meeting at Anthony's, our meeting will be held at our Adopt-A-School partner: Crestridge Magnet School.
We will have a deli lunch of sandwich, chips, cookie, and water for a cost of $5. Choices for sandwich are turkey, ham, or veggie. Sign up at an upcoming meeting (or email/call the office). You must preregister for this meeting.

Last week David Kutler introduced us to new member Dr. Blane McCann. Blane has been the Superintendent for Westside Community Schools since 2012. He holds a B.S. from Miami University, in Oxford, OH and a Master's from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and his Ph.D. from Marquette.
Before coming to Omaha, Blane served as Superintendent of the District of Shorewood in Wisconsin. He is a lifelong educator and has worked as a high school and middle school teacher, principal, administrator, and Executive Director of instruction.
He is been very involved in numerous professional organizations throughout his career including the American Association of School Administrators and the Nebraska Education Commissioner's Advisory Board. He was also a Rotarian in Wisconsin. He and his wife, Marie, have five children and three grandchildren.
In his free, time Blane enjoys spending time with his family and golfing. Welcome Blane!
Last week Roxy Orr introduced new member Sarah Kalhorn-Wisecup. Sarah is the Learning for Life Executive for the Boy Scouts. She oversees outreach/life-skills programs for elementary and middle school students and career exploration for high school students.
Sarah is a 2012 UNL graduate with a B.A. in Psychology and English. She is also a Suburban Rotary Scholar. She has been an active volunteer and has been involved in rebuilding around the U.S. after disasters. She has also served as the President of the UNL Service and Leadership Club and the Volunteer Coordinator for the UNL Women's Center.
Sarah is a newlywed, married to Tyler since October. In her spare time, she enjoys working on house projects, cooking, and playing with her dog and cat. Welcome Sarah!
to Nick Jasa, Duane Gross, and Roxy Orr who were recognized for their generosity to the Rotary Foundation last week by Jeff Bakewell and Jeff Moran.
Nick was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for his donations of $1000 to the Rotary Foundation. Here's what he had to say about supporting the Foundation, "I was at $400 going into this year. $100 dollars for each of my first three years plus $100 matching points for my first time give. I was at a Christmas Program for my 5 year old twins at Countryside Church when I saw a flyer about a clinic for poor children they had started in 1994 in Managua, Nicaragua. They were looking for volunteers to go in the spring to help clean up the clinic. I thought, if this was done 21 years ago and it is still having this type of impact I have to get more involved."
Duane was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow+1 for his donations of $2000 to the Rotary Foundation. Here's what he had to say about supporting the Foundation, "Giving to the Rotary Foundation is an opportunity for Liz and me to positively affect those in need beyond the scope of our immediate community. We believe that, by making regular annual contributions to the Foundation, we are more effectively able to touch people and impact causes around the globe that are near and dear to our hearts."
Roxy was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow+3 for her donations of $4000 to the Rotary Foundation. Here's what she had to say, "Rotary is my way to serve humanity. Everywhere I travel I see how Rotary is working to make a difference. My passion for Rotary is why I’m committed to donating to The Rotary Foundation. From an investment prospective The Rotary Foundation has the highest rating on Charity Navigator, where 92.45% of all donations are used for projects."

Tuesday, January 27th, Northwest Rotary’s speaker and program will be Amber Tjaden with the OPS Transition Program. This presentation will speak to the purpose of the Transition Program, their students and facilities. Suburban and Downtown club members, particularly those involved with education or vocational service, are welcome to attend. Suburban was a donor for a multi-club grant to support this program.

This year Rotary International is providing colored pin backers to members who bring new members into the club. Last week Rose Mary Hefley recognized Roxy Orr with a bronze pin backer for bringing in 2 new members, most recently Sarah Kalhorn-Wisecup. She also recognized David Kutler with a blue backer for bringing in new member Blane McCann.
Mark your calendars for our next After Hours on February 5th at Skate Daze. This fun evening will feature free roller skating, lazer tag, and Playdazium. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Friends, family, co-workers are invited- please help us fill the place up!
