Last week Dick Caulk gave the invocation. Roxy Orr and Steve Thornburg served as Greeters. We had several announcements and presentations as well as a new member introduction. Howard Epstein introduced Howard Shandell who talked about challenges in the healthcare industry. The RISK bag was at $127 and Jared Bakewell won a free lunch.
Last week Katie Henry introduced us to new member Sara Huse. Sara has over a decade of experience in graphic design, marketing, and advertising, working on brands such as Pepsi, Disney, UnitedHealthcare, Cuties Citrus, and Boys Town. Sara recently started her own company, Good Bear Creative. Good Bear specializes in graphic design, creative strategy, and digital content creation for local Omaha brands and agency partners. Sara hopes to make the experience and quality of the big agency accessible to small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Sara has a passion for community involvement. She is an active member of the Junior League of Omaha, having held several leadership positions over the past 5 years. She currently sits on the Lauritzen Gardens Guild Board and is also a member of the Project Harmony Service League. Sara previously served on The Rose Theater Guild Board as an officer and as a chair of their largest fundraiser, Rockin’ Rosie, assisting in raising $150,000 to support arts education.
Sara attended the University of Kansas where she met her husband, Patrick Huse, who currently works in the commercial lending department at ACCESSbank. They have two boys, George – 5 and Frank – 4.
Last week , Kathryn Schubert recognized Rotarians for their generosity to the Rotary Foundation with Paul Harris Levels: Rex Ekwall- Paul Harris +2 ($3000 cumulative) and Pat Mahoney- Paul Harris ($1000 cumulative). Thank you for your support!
Last week Tom Kerfoot presented Nick Jasa and Andy Goranson with their plaques for serving as our leaders for the 18-19 year. Nick also presented Tom with his President badge and pin.
Congratulations to Andy Goranson- 1 and Alice Schumaker- 2 for their years of perfect attendance. They were recognized last week by Julie Livingston and President Tom Kerfoot.
Last week Julie Livingston presented David Kutler, Andy Goranson, and Dan Lupardus with the Suburban Rotary Engagement Award. Congratulations to those who participated at this level in the 2018-2019 year!
We are excited to announce the 8th Annual Baxter Kenworthy Charitable Volleyball Tournament will be held on Saturday, August 10th, 2019 at Spikers Sports and Spirits. 100% of the proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Suburban Rotary Club's Charitable Foundation to provide post graduate scholarships for high school seniors with special needs. We started 8 years ago with just 10 teams and we are now up to an average of 26 teams. We have raised almost $60,000 for this amazing charity. We can't be more excited to be able to offer these individuals a chance to live a full, productive life doing what they are passionate about. Please CLICK HERE to see the flyer/registration form. Then come to the next Adopt A Plot yard waste clean up at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 3202 Parker Street, where our club has made a commitment to return every three weeks to tidy up a visible section of the oldest cemetery in Omaha. Our next time to get 'er done is Saturday, July 27th at 9:00 a.m. We rake, sweep, weed whack, pick up sticks and litter and make the grounds look respectable. Cookies and blisters galore!
