Meeting re-cap 5/5

Last week Jim Conway and Taylor Breen served as our greeters. Kathryn Schubert gave the invocation. We had several announcements and recognition of the Scholarship Circle members. We also had two new member introductions. Curt Peters recognized all of the volunteers from the last month as "Gifts to the World". Yolanda Hoffman introduced our speakers from CHI Health. Dr. Cliff Robertson talked about the changes in healthcare and what CHI is doing to meet the future needs of patients. The RISK bag was at $637 and Karen Ihrig won half the pot-$314.

Welcome Sabrina Jones!

Last week Carter Jones introduced us to new member Sabrina Jones. Sabrina is the Owner of Sabrina Jones Designs and her designs have been featured at Omaha Fashion Week and published in Wedding Essentials Magazine.

Sabrina graduated from UNL and studied in France and studied design in London where she interned with renowned designer Zandra Rhodes.

She also designs children's wear and swimwear. She teaches fitness classes for Blue Moon Fitness and gives tours at Joslyn Castle which provided a home for her runway show.

Sabrina has two daughters and teaches Opera Omaha's Cotillion among many other things she does with them.

Welcome Back Warren Hill!

Last week Alan Stanek reintroduced us to returning member Warren Hill. Warren was a member of our club from 1980-93 and was a District Governor for our District as well.

Warren has been living for the last 20 years in Colorado and has returned here to be closer to family. Warren is married to Betty and is retired from the National Park service. He worked in Nebraska, New York, and in the Grand Canyon, Great Sand Dunes, and Death Valley National Parks.

Warren has been a member of five different Rotary clubs and founded the O'Neill, NE Rotary club. He led a Group Study Exchange to Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Warren has traveled around the world to 89 different countries and with the Colorado Springs Rotary coordinated a gift of 8 fire trucks, 7 school buses, computers, and six semi's full of furniture for a sister city in Mexico.

Warren and Betty are both Major Donors to the Rotary Foundation. Welcome back, Warren!

Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation Fundraiser

Thank you all for your generous support of our annual Suburban Rotary Club Charitable Foundation.

We will continue to recognize Scholarship Circle members each week until all have been recognized. Last week we recognized Scholarship Circle Members: Gary Carrico, Karen Bremer, Lisa Neu, Lisa Walker Sekundiak, and Gary Stoneburg. Thank you all!

Volunteers needed Saturday! Prospect Park Cemetery Clean-Up

Prospect Park Cemetery Clean-Up- mark your calendar for May 14th!

Please arrive between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. If you can't stay the whole time, that is okay.

It would be wonderful if people had weed whackers to bring them as the trimming around gravestones is appreciated.....or hand held clippers. Wonderful for folks to bring outdoor yard utensils.....rakes/brooms/hedge trimmers/yard waste bags/dandelion diggers/shovels/work gloves/trash picker-uppers (there sometimes is a lot of litter along the fence lines that enclose the cemetery on the west, south and north sides.)

The Prospect Village neighborhood is also having a clean-up day and following that a free ice cream social. They have invited US!!!

The ice cream social starts at 2 pm at the new Pocket Park at 1715 N 35th St. ---across from Franklin School.

It's a free event, not a fundraiser.
