John Dechant is the president of Legacy Preservation, an Omaha-based specialty publishing firm that publishes books for businesses and families.
In addition to his Legacy writing, he is the author of Little Poison: Paul Runyan, Sam Snead, and a Long-Shot Upset at the 1938 PGA Championship, which was a finalist for the Herbert Warren Wind Award and was profiled in the Wall Street Journal at the time of its 2023 publication. That fall, Dechant was featured as a co-panelist at the Morristown Festival of Books alongside New York Times bestselling author Jeff Benedict on the subject of writing and reporting about sports heroes.
In 2016, Dechant wrote Scoreless: Omaha Central, Creighton Prep, and Nebraska’s Greatest High School Football Game, which was recognized by the Christian Science Monitor as one of the twelve best new books in its genre. He is also the author of Joslyn Castle, published in 2022 by Arcadia Press for its Images of America series.
Dechant is a graduate of Creighton University, where he received a journalism degree in 2005 and a master’s degree in 2008.
