HAL DAUB: 4th generation Nebraskan, Married with three children and five grandchildren, 4-term US Congressman, 2-term Mayor, Proud Member of Omaha Downtown Rotary, Eagle Scout, NU Board of Regents, and Chairman of the Social Security Advisory Board nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the US Senate.
Hal graduated from Omaha, Nebraska Benson High School in 1959, there was President of the Student Council, Valedictorian of his graduating class of 366 students, Drum Major of the Marching Band, National Forensic League Degree of Distinction, Deputy Commander of the ROTC detachment, World-Herald Scholar; received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1963, there was President of Student Government, inducted into Thurtene Junior Honorary, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, active in his Greek letter social fraternity Kappa Sigma; earned his law degree from University of Nebraska in 1966, there serving as the Regional Vice President for the Student Law Association of the American Bar Association and selected s the Most Outstanding Law Student in the Nation by his Law School Fraternity, Delta Theta Phi; and served as a Captain, U.S. Army Infantry, Platoon Leader and Company Commander with the Second United States Infantry Division, Korea, from 1966-1968, after finishing First in his Infantry Basic Training Class at Ft. Benning Georgia.
Hal practiced law in Omaha with the firm of Fitzgerald, Brown, Leahy, McGill & Strom from 1968 to 1971; was Vice-President and General Counsel with Standard Chemical Manufacturing Company from 1971 to 1981; elected to and served four-terms in the United States House of Representatives working for Nebraskans as a member of the most powerful and influential committee of the Congress, the Ways and Means Committee from 1981 to 1989; campaigned for the U. S. Senate on two occasions; was a principal and partner in the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche from 1989 to 1995; served as the twice-elected Mayor of the City of Omaha from 1995 until 2001; was elected to the Boards of the Nebraska League of Municipalities, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities, and was President of the National Republican Mayors and Local Officials Association for six years; was elected to be a Delegate to the last eleven Republican National Conventions, served as Vice-Chairman of the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority Board, was Chairman of Community Health Charities of America National Board, National Committeeman for the Nebraska Republican Party, was President and CEO of the American Health Care Association, and is was a Partner and is now retired Senior Counsel with Husch Blackwell law firm. Appointed by President G.H.W. Bush to the National Advisory Commission on the Public Service in 1990 and nominated by President George W. Bush, to serve a six-year term on the permanent statutory Social Security Advisory Board and as a result of confirmation by the U.S. Senate on January 25, 2002 and at the direction of the President, on February 5, 2002, serve as its Chair for the next four years. Hal was a delegate to the 2006 White House Conference on Aging. He served as a publicly elected member of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.
