President's Corner

Hello My Fellow Rotarians,

What is it like to lead Suburban Rotary during this year of the pandemic? Many of our members have offered me their condolences for having such an abnormal presidency. My reaction is always the same. I feel privileged to be in this position, knowing how many capable business leaders are club members.

I just took part in a Yearlings’ meeting on Zoom led by Alice Schumaker, a truly wonderful committee chair. Yearling Doug Hansen and 2-year member John Maxwell gave inspiring vocational talks. They both have had exceptional careers and service as community leaders. We are so fortunate to continue to attract such outstanding people into Suburban.

While I sometimes wonder why I was asked to serve, I’m glad to do what I can. This is the best job ever!

Paul Harris Recognition

Last week Intl. Rotary Foundation Committee Chair Jared Bakewell recognized a a very generous member. The Rotary Foundation supports projects around the world to promote peace, literacy, health, and disease eradication. Congratulations and thank you!

John Hoich was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow +6 for his donations of $7000 in addition to being an Arch Klump Society member.

Now that we are meeting back at Anthony's, You must be pre-registered to attend. At this time, only people eating lunch are able to attend. Cost is $17 and will be plated. Consider purchasing a 10 lunch ticket to make weekly registration easier. If you already have a lunch ticket, please just send Jennifer an email or call to register.

RISK Wheel (you can sign up for November now)

Last week Kevin Welsh was the first October RISK player to be drawn. He spun the wheel and ended up with a $10 Amazon gift card. The October pot is $839 and if the weekly name drawn spins the wheel and lands on the star, he/she win half the pot!

Secretary Marlon Lofgren is excited to bring you a new game with a potentially BIG payout. RISK stands for (Rotarians Investing in Special Kids) and has always been our drawing at weekly meetings. Half the proceeds go to the Foundation to support our programs and the other half to the winner. Deadline to sign up to play for November is Wednesday, November 4th.

This year it will have a twist to allow those on Zoom and in the room to play and win.

Rules:

1.) You must be signed up and paid before the 1st Thursday meeting of the month (11/4 for November) You can give your money to Marlon at a meeting ($20 cash or check) or pay online at suburbanrotary.org CLICK HERE.

2.) There will be one spot for half the pot and the others will be covered in a variety of prizes including gift cards and free lunches.

3.) One winner of half the pot per month. If half the pot is not won in any given month, the RISK pot will continue to grow until it is won.

4.) Once the pot is won, we will give away the smaller prizes until the contest begins again in the next month.
