Last week Roger Carrell and Peggy Carrell served as Greeters. Amanda Fink gave the invocation. We had several announcements, presentations, and two new member introductions. Nick Jasa introduced Mayor Jean Stothert who talked about the upcoming bond issues. The RISK bag was $134 and Tracy Rowland won a free lunch.
Last week David Kutler introduced us to new member Al Batschelet. Al is the President and CEO of the First Responder Foundation of Omaha. It is a non-profit organization with a mission to enhance public safety and build community appreciation and respect for First Responders.
Al is originally from rural Iowa and attended Iowa State University. He also joined the Iowa National Guard and ROTC while in college. By the time he graduated with his bachelor's degree he was a Second Lieutenant. Al served 33 years in the Army and retired as a Major General. He had many varied assignments and at different times oversaw the Army's talent acquisition enterprise at the Recruiting Command and helped oversee America's strategic, nuclear, cyber, and space forces at U.S. Strategic Command.
Al is a former Rotarian with Iowa Great Lakes in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He is married to Terri and enjoys hunting, fishing, and motorcycling in his free time. Welcome, Al!
Last week Jennifer Jirak-Brungardt introduced us to new member Suzi Brehmer. Suzi is the Controller for Smith Davis Insurance in Council Bluffs. She and her husband, Jeff, purchased the agency in June 2106. Prior to that, Suzi had a long career with Walgreens for 25 years.
Suzi is originally from Council Bluffs and she earned her B.S. Degree from Truman State. She is an active community member volunteering with Sigma Kappa Sorority, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Heartland Family Service, and the Lewis Central Booster Club.
She has 4 children and 2 grandchildren. In her free time, Suzi enjoys traveling, swimming, and watching her kids participate in activities. Welcome, Suzi!
We have reached our dollar goal but We are still at half of our goal for participation, so make a donation today! The local Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation supports 50K of scholarships each year to students with special needs in addition to funding projects such as military support, Crestridge school, food and shoes to the homeless, and projects around the world such as the schools in Afghanistan and Nicaragua.
Last week we recognized more members of the President's Scholarship Circle and will do so until we've recognized everyone.

Prospect Hill Cemetery, the oldest pioneer cemetery in Omaha, 3202 Parker Street, has an agreement with Suburban Rotary to Adopt-A-Plot of grounds to keep tidy all during the growing season. Please consider coming for one of the following future Saturday's, from 10 a.m.-noon, and help weed whack, rake yard waste, sweep the curbs, pick up sticks and pick up litter. Attendance credit guaranteed for your two hour effort. The following Saturday's include: May 19th, June 9th, June 30th, July 28th, August 25 and September 22nd.
