Last week Lyle Sapp was the fifth October RISK player to be drawn. He won a $10 gift card. The November pot is $999 as of today. If the weekly name drawn spins the wheel and lands on the star, he/she win half the pot!
RISK stands for (Rotarians Investing in Special Kids) and has always been our drawing at weekly meetings. Half the proceeds go to the Foundation to support our programs and the other half to the winner. Deadline to sign up to play for November is Wednesday, November 4th.
This year it will have a twist to allow those on Zoom and in the room to play and win.
Rules:
1.) You must be signed up and paid before the 1st Thursday meeting of the month (11/4 for November) Pay online at suburbanrotary.org CLICK HERE.
2.) There will be one spot for half the pot and the others will be covered in a variety of prizes including gift cards and free lunches.
3.) One winner of half the pot per month. If half the pot is not won in any given month, the RISK pot will continue to grow until it is won.
4.) Once the pot is won, we will give away the smaller prizes until the contest begins again in the next month.
Have fun and help us do some FUNdraising for our great Suburban Rotary Programs.
Consider making your annual donation to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. This money comes back to us in three years in the form of Global and District grants to spend on our projects. Your donation goes around the world to promote literacy, fight disease, and encourage peace. Every Rotarian Every Year asks that you consider a gift of at least $100 to the Rotary Foundation.
If you have never given, Suburban Rotary will match your first $100 to the Foundation giving you $200 toward your Paul Harris Fellowship (cumulative giving of $1000). Rotary Foundation Committee Chair, Jared Bakewell, asked us last week to "Rise To the Occasion" during this difficult year to support people in need around the world.
Due to Covid, this year, this event will be a coat/fund drive to help students with a variety of needs. Thank you to Lindley Clothing who has been our partner for many years. We hope to be back in-person next fall!
Rotarians had a great time petting animals, taking a hayrack ride, and enjoying some good food and company last Thursday night. Thanks to Zach Ziler for organizing and for our anonymous donor who provided the food and drinks!
Join us for an outside, socially-distanced service project to help our community. We will be ringing bells on November 21st and December 5th and need lots of volunteers. Sign up with your friends/family or fellow Rotarians. Go to the CALENDAR section of our website and select the date and link and sign up.
Membership Chair, Kevin Welsh, announced a special incentive to those who have left Suburban Rotary to return before the end of this Rotary year (June 30, 2021). For this time period, the club will waive the Yearlings requirements and initiation fee for prior Suburban Rotarians. With our new hybrid meeting format, we hope that members who had struggled to participate will find it easy to join us and be engaged. Who do you know that was a previous member and would like to return? Please reach out- any questions please see Kevin or Jennifer.

Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. District 5650 embraces these values and believes that it is through creating a sense of inclusion and belonging in our Clubs that we will increase our impact, expand our reach, enhance participant engagement, and increase our ability to adapt. This is imperative to our ability to meet our mission as Rotarians.
For these reasons, we invite you to join fellow Rotarians from District 5650 and beyond for (4) free virtual inclusivity workshops facilitated by Inclusive Communities (you can learn more about them at https://www.inclusive-communities.org/). We'll explore our own personal experiences with diversity, equity, and inclusion, examine our unconscious biases, and uncover actionable ideas about how we can increase membership by making Rotary a place of belonging for all people and a better reflection of our communities. Plus, you'll build personal leadership skills and that promote respectful and inclusive behaviors.
You will receive the most value by attending all four workshops which are from 4:00pm - 5:30pm on these four consecutive Thursdays: 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12. So, please plan to attend all (or as many as you can) sessions while registering.
These workshops are free to Rotarians through a district grant submitted by Omaha Suburban Rotary. We thank them for their initiative and support.
That is the Rotary Leadership Institute experience!
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a facilitated program with active participation - not lecturing. Topics important to Rotary and Rotary Clubs such as Effective Service Projects, Membership Engagement, and understanding The Rotary Foundation are explored. You will discuss real challenges and exchange ideas.
Sign up yourself - you will be a more effective leader for your Rotary Club.
RLI is for everyone - Leadership is not a position, it is action.
Since we have not been able to hold RLI sessions in person, the District is offering an online option.
We have been invited to partner with Rotary District 5520 (New Mexico and a few clubs in Texas). They have scheduled a Part 1 RLI session as follows:
Saturday, November 14 8:30 AM - 2:10 PM Central Time There are 2 breaks during the day There is no cost - they will send materials by email Space is limited
Since this is not in our district, we may hear of different challenges and opportunities. Also, their District Governor is quite involved in the RLI sessions. One of the things we value about RLI is sharing ideas and learning about other Clubs and Districts.
RLI is not a repeat of other training available through Rotary and is not position specific.
Testimonial from a recent participant: RLI was a great opportunity to explore Rotary - really learn about this vast organization. This is the first time I truly understood that Rotary was not just about my Club - it extends beyond to other communities, states and the world. I feel that I can truly help my club with programs now that I have participated in RLI.
Nicolette Klein,
Chair - Rotary Leadership Institute - Heartland USA Division
Meetings will continue in a hybrid format offering both online participation and in-person participation. We know that not everyone can or will be comfortable with attending meetings in-person, so the plan is to continue to offer both formats going forward. Please make sure you read and follow our in-person meeting protocols when attending.
