The Homeowners Association that my husband Bob and I are part of has been filled with strife. Name-calling, snubbing and angry confrontations have become a way of life as our neighborhood struggles to assimilate new residents and change some long-established practices. This drama seems to be mirrored on a national level as well.
These disruptions makes me appreciate Suburban Rotary even more than before. You are my port in a storm. Our club finances are open to all, our Board meetings are open to any member who wants to attend, and all criticism and suggestions for change are taken quite seriously.
This transparency exists, I believe, because of our tradition of observing the Four-Way-Test. Our members bravely bring issues that need to be addressed to the forefront. These matters are treated respectfully. We do not always agree, but we regard every opinion with reverence. It is the maturity of our members, our well develop club processes and our kindness that see us through difficult times.
If you have any problems or concerns please email or call me. I’m here to help. You should always feel proud of Suburban Rotary. If you don’t, I need to know.
Thank you for your generous support of my presidency and Jennifer and our Board‘s leadership through COVID 19. I truly believe we are the best.

Last week Intl. Rotary Foundation Committee Chair, Jared Bakewell, recognized Ann Olmsted as a Paul Harris Fellow for her donations of $1000. The Rotary Foundation supports projects around the world to promote peace, literacy, health, and disease eradication. Congratulations and thank you!
Membership Chair Kevin Welsh announced a special incentive to those who have left Suburban Rotary to return before the end of this Rotary year (June 30, 2020). For this time period, the club will waive the Yearlings requirements and initiation fee for returning prior Rotarians. With our new hybrid meeting format, we hope that members who had struggled to participate will find it easy to join us and be engaged. Who do you know that was a previous member and would like to return? Please reach out- any questions see Kevin or Jennifer.
Good news! The shipping container has arrived on site. From Ian Vickers: Yesterday, during my meeting with our Togo partners, they have confirmation the container with the X-ray machine, has cleared customs and arrived. It is safely on site and will be installed once the Health Center is finalized near the end of this month.
Tell the world you believe in "Service Above Self" when wearing your Rotary face mask. Cost is $10 and we can mail it to you or you can pick it up at a meeting. Use button below to pay or CLICK HERE.
Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. District 5650 embraces these values and believes that it is through creating a sense of inclusion and belonging in our Clubs that we will increase our impact, expand our reach, enhance participant engagement, and increase our ability to adapt. This is imperative to our ability to meet our mission as Rotarians.
For these reasons, we invite you to join fellow Rotarians from District 5650 and beyond for (4) free virtual inclusivity workshops facilitated by Inclusive Communities (you can learn more about them at https://www.inclusive-communities.org/). We'll explore our own personal experiences with diversity, equity, and inclusion, examine our unconscious biases, and uncover actionable ideas about how we can increase membership by making Rotary a place of belonging for all people and a better reflection of our communities. Plus, you'll build personal leadership skills and that promote respectful and inclusive behaviors.
You will receive the most value by attending all four workshops which are from 4:00pm - 5:30pm on these four consecutive Thursdays: 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12. So, please plan to attend all (or as many as you can) sessions while registering.
These workshops are free to Rotarians through a district grant submitted by Omaha Suburban Rotary. We thank them for their initiative and support.
Last week Ken Jansen was the second October RISK player to be drawn. Mary spun the wheel for him and he won a $10 gift card. The October pot is $839 and if the weekly name drawn spins the wheel and lands on the star, he/she win half the pot!
Secretary Marlon Lofgren is excited to bring you a new game with a potentially BIG payout. RISK stands for (Rotarians Investing in Special Kids) and has always been our drawing at weekly meetings. Half the proceeds go to the Foundation to support our programs and the other half to the winner. Deadline to sign up to play for November is Wednesday, November 4th.
This year it will have a twist to allow those on Zoom and in the room to play and win.
Rules:
1.) You must be signed up and paid before the 1st Thursday meeting of the month (11/4 for November) You can give your money to Marlon at a meeting ($20 cash or check) or pay online at suburbanrotary.org CLICK HERE.
2.) There will be one spot for half the pot and the others will be covered in a variety of prizes including gift cards and free lunches.
3.) One winner of half the pot per month. If half the pot is not won in any given month, the RISK pot will continue to grow until it is won.
4.) Once the pot is won, we will give away the smaller prizes until the contest begins again in the next month.
Have fun and help us do some FUNdraising for our great Suburban Rotary Programs.
Meetings will continue in a hybrid format offering both online participation and in-person participation. We know that not everyone can or will be comfortable with attending meetings in-person, so the plan is to continue to offer both formats going forward. Please make sure you read and follow our in-person meeting protocols when attending.
