Time to Rejoin Suburban Rotary!
Membership Chair, Kevin Welsh, announced a special incentive to those who have left Suburban Rotary to return before the end of this Rotary year (June 30, 2021).   For this time period, the club will waive the Yearlings requirements and initiation fee for prior Rotarians.   With our new hybrid meeting format, we hope that members who had struggled to participate will find it easy to join us and be engaged.  Who do you know that was a previous member and would like to return?  Please reach out- any questions please see Kevin or Jennifer.

From Ryan Bouda to the Secret Kindness Agent:  I don’t know who is sending them, but thank you so much to that person. It put such a smile on my face and reminds me just why I love this Rotary group. We are here for each other as a community. So thank you to my secret kindness agent.

Nicaragua School for the Deaf
WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Many of you will remember the matching grant to Suburban Rotary to open a school for the deaf in Nicaragua in 2007. Dr. Ann Coyne maintained the school until 2017 through the sale of pottery and through her own personal funds. Upon her retirement, Ann formed a non profit in early 2017, Advocacy Network for Nicaraguan Deaf Education (ANNDE), a 501(c)3 organization. Curt Peters generously provided the resources to set up a website:
ANNDE.org.

It only costs $15,000 a year to pay all expenses for the school and to change the lives of 25 deaf and indigent children. PLEASE HELP with your donation through the website, ANNDE.org or by mail to Frank Goldberg, ANNDE Treasurer. Feel free to contact me with questions, Ann Olmsted, mahoann@cox.net
Thank you!
  • Ann Olmsted, ANNDE President

Inclusivity Workshops

Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. District 5650 embraces these values and believes that it is through creating a sense of inclusion and belonging in our Clubs that we will increase our impact, expand our reach, enhance participant engagement, and increase our ability to adapt. This is imperative to our ability to meet our mission as Rotarians.
For these reasons, we invite you to join fellow Rotarians from District 5650 and beyond for (4) free virtual inclusivity workshops facilitated by Inclusive Communities (you can learn more about them at https://www.inclusive-communities.org/). We'll explore our own personal experiences with diversity, equity, and inclusion, examine our unconscious biases, and uncover actionable ideas about how we can increase membership by making Rotary a place of belonging for all people and a better reflection of our communities. Plus, you'll build personal leadership skills and that promote respectful and inclusive behaviors.

You will receive the most value by attending all four workshops which are from 4:00pm - 5:30pm on these four consecutive Thursdays: 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12. So, please plan to attend all (or as many as you can) sessions while registering.

These workshops are free to Rotarians through a district grant submitted by Omaha Suburban Rotary. We thank them for their initiative and support.

Please direct any questions to Rotary District 5650 Membership Chair, Jared Bakewell at (402) 312-6110 or jaredbakewell@gmail.com
