Crista Eggers is the statewide campaign coordinator for Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana. She became involved in medical cannabis advocacy on behalf of her young son, who suffers from epileptic seizures. 

Rotarians were not deterred by the sudden drop to freezing temperatures as they braved the cold weather buying and serving coffee for the homeless in our community.

The Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation is in action with Rotarians at work providing dinner to teachers during parent-teacher conferences.

The Membership Development Committee recommends that Suburban Rotary hold a "Prospective Member Guest Day" during our Club meeting on Thursday, November 16, 2023.  The program for that day will be:
 
Eugene Kowell, FBI Agent in Charge for Nebraska and Iowa.

Attention everyone! We are excited to announce a new addition to our weekly agenda - Vocational Speakers! Jennifer Jirak-Brundgardt, our Executive Director for 15 years and now a full-time Rotarian, presented the inaugural vocational talk last week. She shared her inspiring experiences of traveling the world, which motivated her to purchase a travel franchise. Going forward, we will feature a different vocational speaker every week. Please note that the vocational talk is timed, and you will be fined if you exceed the allocated 4 minutes. Rotary Experience with Hope of the Poor

Danny laid the guitar on his lap caressing it like an old friend.

 

Bella sitting next to him held her violin lovingly beneath her chin.

 

The violin offered its sweet sustained notes. Soon Danny was gently strumming cords and singing tender melodies about humans and angels and our common mission to care for one another.

 

The audience was a group of people willing to serve. I was one of twelve.

 

We were sitting in an old church. Its ancient Romanesque architecture housed us safely from the chaos of the outside world. The hefty forms and supports of the building created a tan gray environment made lighter by the small colorful stained glass windows along the side walls.

The residue of a holy energy from past events that took place here, filled our pores with anticipation.

 

Danny and Bella explained why we were there and defined the protocols for our actions. Then we were ready to begin our mission - to offer coffee, food and ourselves - to those who had no home - to those that simply needed to be seen, better yet, to be heard.

 

 

What a fun Halloween Costume contest it was! The winners were Warren Hill in his kingly attire and Alice Schumaker in a butterfly costume. It was a fun meeting last week with lots of candies courtesy of President Katie Henry and cookies courtesy of Chuck Hackshaw. Thank you, Rotarians!

The Suburban Rotary is one of the few clubs that received the prestigious Rotary International Citation for Rotary Year 2022-2023 under the leadership of President Kevin Welsh. The award was presented at the recently concluded Rotary District 5650 Conference. As a club we exceeded RI's expectations in areas of Developing and implementing sustainable service projects, Giving to The Rotary Foundation, and Building awareness of Rotary in the community. Congratulations, Rotarians! You made it happen.

 

Mário César Martins de Camargo, a member of the Rotary Club of Santo André, São Paulo, Brazil, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President to become Rotary International’s president for 2025-26. He will officially become the nominee on 15 September if no other candidates challenge him.
 

R. Gordon R. McInally is president of Rotary International. He was educated at the Royal High School in Edinburgh and at the University of Dundee, where he earned his graduate degree in dental surgery. He operated his own dental practice in Edinburgh until 2016. Gordon was chair of the East of Scotland branch of the British Paedodontic Society and has held various academic positions. He has also served as a presbytery elder, chair of the Queensferry parish congregational board, and commissioner to the general assembly of the Church of Scotland.
