We are excited to announce that we will be hosting another Rotary Guest Day on December 7, 2023. Our guest speaker for the day will be Mika Mizrachi, an Israeli who served in the Israel Defense Force and has a unique perspective on the current situation in Israel. We believe it will be very interesting to hear her insights on this topic.
The geopolitical situation in Israel is of great interest to us all, and it goes beyond geographical boundaries. Therefore, we encourage each of you to extend this invitation beyond our immediate Rotary family. Please feel free to bring along a guest or prospective member who shares our passion for knowledge and global understanding.

Guess what, Rotarians? We're jazzing up our weekly routine with a dash of hilarity – introducing our newest star segment: Vocational Speakers! Last week, we handed the mic to the fabulous Jennifer Green, and oh boy, did she spill the beans! Not only is she a pro in her field, but she's also a third-generation Rotarian. Talk about keeping it in the family – her granddad was spinning the wheel of Rotary fame back in Nebraska City!
But hold onto your Rotary hats, folks, because here's the kicker: Jennifer's dad, the one and only Fritz Stehlik, is the legendary recruiter who roped her into the Suburban Rotary scene. Remember Fritz from last week's newsletter? The legal maestro himself!
Now, here's the plot twist that even Hollywood couldn't dream up: Fritz, the man with the legal wizardry, flat-out refused to let Jennifer become a lawyer! What's the deal, Fritz? Are lawyers secretly wizards with briefcases, or did you just want to keep the courtroom drama at bay?
Who knows, maybe soon we'll hear directly from Fritz Stehlik himself. Will he spill the beans on why being a lawyer is a big no-no in the Stehlik family? Stay tuned, Rotarians – the saga continues, and we're on the edge of our Rotary seats!

Suburban Rotary's Immediate Past President, Kevin Welsh, received the Rotary International Citation recognition for 2022-2023 on behalf of the club. District Governor-Elect, Tom Kerfoot, presented the award. The Rotary International Citation is given to clubs that fulfill the annual goals submitted to Rotary International at the beginning of the Rotary year. For the 15th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation has received the highest rating – four stars – from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S.
The Foundation earned recognition for adhering to sector best practices and executing its mission in a financially efficient way, demonstrating both strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency.
In June 1999, a year after I joined the staff of Rotary International, I attended my first convention. It was then that I first witnessed the global power of Rotary and made my first batch of Rotary friends. And it was then that I was introduced to Singapore for a second time.
Mário César Martins de Camargo, a member of the Rotary Club of Santo André, São Paulo, Brazil, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President to become Rotary International’s president for 2025-26. He will officially become the nominee on 15 September if no other candidates challenge him.
De Camargo plans to boost Rotary’s public image by working from the top down.
“Rotary today has strong competition for members and funds,” he says. “We need to rejuvenate the brand, especially in some zones. We should utilize post-pandemic meeting tools … to allow the president to address Rotarians all over the globe. We also need to develop more long-term partnerships with political, community, and business leaders. Let’s emphasize our greatest asset: 1.4 million volunteers.”
R. Gordon R. McInally is president of Rotary International. He was educated at the Royal High School in Edinburgh and at the University of Dundee, where he earned his graduate degree in dental surgery. He operated his own dental practice in Edinburgh until 2016. Gordon was chair of the East of Scotland branch of the British Paedodontic Society and has held various academic positions. He has also served as a presbytery elder, chair of the Queensferry parish congregational board, and commissioner to the general assembly of the Church of Scotland.
