Last month, a truck drove over the African countryside to deliver X-ray machine to the small western country of Togo. In a place where one child out of five dies before the age of ten, this equipment along with a much needed delivery of medicine, will substantially impact human lives.
Suburban Rotary, in partnership with the social impact organization Global Partners in Hope, provided this gift to the Togolese people through a World Community Service grant which began several years ago. The initial $10,000 donation was given by The Rotary Charitable Gift Fund. Our District Rotary, Rotary International, and Global Partners in Hope provided the necessary matches in order to purchase the necessary items.
Congratulations to all of you Rotarians who gave generously to the Rotary Foundation, to the World Service Committee who worked so hard on this grant, and to Global Partners in Hope for this wonderful opportunity to give.
And because Rotarians don’t let a little thing like a pandemic slow them down, Ed Walsh, Karen Rolf and Jennifer Green are working hard on two more global grants to present to the Foundation Board of Trustees this month.
You all make me proud to be a Suburban Rotarian. You are simply the best!
Please register in advance to attend in-person. At this time, only people eating lunch are able to attend. Cost is $17 and will be plated. Consider purchasing a 10 lunch ticket to make weekly registration easier. If you already have a lunch ticket, please send Jennifer an email or call to register.
Consider making your annual donation to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. This money comes back to us in three years in the form of Global and District grants to spend on our projects. Your donation goes around the world to promote literacy, fight disease, and encourage peace. Every Rotarian Every Year asks that you consider a gift of at least $100 to the Rotary Foundation.
If you have never given, Suburban Rotary will match your first $100 to the Foundation giving you $200 toward your Paul Harris Fellowship (cumulative giving of $1000). Rotary Foundation Committee Chair, Jared Bakewell, asked us last week to "Rise To the Occasion" during this difficult year to support people in need around the world.
Due to Covid, this year, this event will be a coat/fund drive to help students with a variety of needs. Thank you to Lindley Clothing who has been our partner for many years. We hope to be back in-person next fall!
Join us for an outside, socially-distanced service project to help our community. We will be ringing bells on November 21st and December 5th and need lots of volunteers. Sign up with your friends/family or fellow Rotarians. Go to the CALENDAR section of our website and select the date and link and sign up.
A special thanks to Karen Rolf who created a fun video of Rotarians and family and friends in Halloween costumes for us to enjoy at last week's meeting. Thank you also to our anonymous donors who donated $214 to the Rotary Foundation for the fun photos! If you missed seeing it, you can watch it by clicking HERE.
Please keep Pat Mahoney and his family in your thoughts and prayers. His brother, Michael, passed away last week. The visitation is on Thursday. You can read Michael's obituary HERE.
Condolences may be sent to Pat and Maureen Mahoney, 16808 Cady Circle, Omaha, NE 68116.
Please pass along sincere thanks from Sharon and me to Rotary Secret Agent Madame Butterfly. What a pleasant surprise to find 2 mini bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cake on our porch this morning. (If you have information for the About Us section, please let Jennifer know.)
Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. District 5650 embraces these values and believes that it is through creating a sense of inclusion and belonging in our Clubs that we will increase our impact, expand our reach, enhance participant engagement, and increase our ability to adapt. This is imperative to our ability to meet our mission as Rotarians.
Meetings will continue in a hybrid format offering both online participation and in-person participation. We know that not everyone can or will be comfortable with attending meetings in-person, so the plan is to continue to offer both formats going forward. Please make sure you read and follow our in-person meeting protocols when attending.
